How To Be Preppy For Less

A lot of times, when people think of preppy clothes, their mind jumps straight to the price. They think of Tory Burch riding boots, Lilly Pulitzer dresses, and J Crew oxfords, which can all be incredibly expensive. But here's the catch: they don't have to cost as much as you think they do. Today, I'm answering a couple of the post requests from my reader survey by sharing some of the best tips and tricks I've found when it comes to buying preppy clothes for less!

Second Hand Retailers
There are several great options when it comes to finding brands you love for less. A great place to look for brands such as Lilly Pulitzer and Vineyard Vines is your local consignment store. I've also heard rumors that you can find Lilly Pulitzer at TJMaxx and Marshall's, but I've never had any luck there personally. I also love to look for items online at websites such as Poshmark or eBay. (Psst... I'm selling some clothes on my Poshmark. Use the code JAYEL when you sign up for a surprise!) I also love Nordstrom Rack for jewelry such as Kate Spade and Alex & Ani, and shoes such as Jack Rogers or Sperrys. 6PM also has a few good items every now and then!

Lilly Pulitzer
I did a whole post on this (it was actually my very first post) so I'm not going to go into detail here, but there are some great tricks to scoring Lilly for less. If you want to find out about them, click here!

Old Navy & Target
Old Navy and Target are both great places to get J Crew lookalikes for a fraction of the price! Old Navy is a great place to get vests, chino shorts, and striped tees. Target has some great basics such as striped tees too, and they also have really cute statement necklaces and a great selection of shoes.

Vineyard Vines
Every so often, Vineyard Vines has a sale where you can get items at a discounted price. I will usually stock up on Vineyard Vines t-shirts at this time, because they're only $17 when they are typically $50. They have their Whale of A Sale and their Friends And Family sale occasionally, so be on the lookout for those sales! They just ended their Friends and Family sale, but they might have another sale soon!

J Crew
Many people know this, but J Crew has a factory store where you can get discounted J Crew items for less. I find J Crew extremely expensive, so this is a great way to get high-quality items for less. J Crew factory also has sales every so often, and sometimes you can even get up to 50% off your order!

Kendra Scott
Kendra Scott is by far my favorite jewelry brand. They often have promotions where you can get certain styles of jewelry for 15% off, which is nice, but there's actually a way to get jewelry for 50% off. If you go into the store during your birthday month and show them your ID, you get one piece of jewelry for 50% off! This is actually not a very well known trick, so I was really excited when one of my friends told me about it.

Kate Spade
Like I said earlier, you can find discounted Kate Spade at Nordstrom Rack (I recently got these earrings) but there's one other way to get amazing deals: surprise sales. Every so often, Kate Spade has a surprise sale where you can get up to 75% off select items. It's an amazing sale, and if you've been eyeing one of their handbags, wait until they have a sale!

A good tip for any store in general is to always shop sales, and invest in good quality pieces that will last you a while. It's also helpful to shop at outlet stores, if you're ever near one. If you can fit into kids' sizes, always go that route, because the price will usually be a little bit cheaper.

For discount codes for a couple smaller brands, including t-shirt brands and monogram shops, check out my discount codes page!

I hope you found this post helpful, and will use some of these tricks in the future!

Link Love Vol. 1

It's been forever since I published a post solely devoted to links, so I'm so excited to introduce my new series: Link Love! It's basically the same thing as my Friday Picks, except it has a different name and will be published every other week.

Life Lately Vol. 1

Hey, y'all! I'm so excited to be starting a new Friday series instead of my usual Friday Picks! Basically, every other week, I will be sharing a little update about what has been going on in my life recently. On the other weeks, I will share links I've been loving. I've wanted to start this new series for a while now so y'all can get to know me better. I feel like there are so many aspects of my life that I don't share with y'all, and I really want that to change!

Your Complete Guide To Gel Nails

In early March, I went to get my nails done. I've gotten my nails done plenty of times before, but this time was different because I got gel nails. They lasted a long time, but unfortunately, I didn't do any research beforehand. When I went into the salon, I knew nothing about gel nails except that they last longer. Needless to say, I discovered a few things from the process, so today I'm sharing everything I've learned so you don't make the same mistake I did.

Rose Quartz For Spring

When I saw that Rose Quartz was one of Pantone's two colors of the year, I got really excited, because I love that color and one of my favorite tank tops is that color! Today, I'm collaborating with Rebecca from Sunny Rebecca, and we're both showing how we style this color. I think this is such a gorgeous color, especially for spring, and I hope you enjoy seeing how Rebecca and I styled it!
